Beach-Barber Tract - The Beach Barber area of La Jolla is an interesting mix of home styles, all within easy walking distance of the beach. There are some local La Jolla shops and restaurants. The Wind and Sea beach is world renowned and very popular with surfers. Not recommended for swimmers due to a powerful shore break.

Bird Rock - Named for the large white rock just offshore, where birds gather. Good local La Jolla shops and restaurants on La Jolla Boulevard. Ideal for diving and surfing, Tourmaline Beach is a small scenic sandy beach a favorite with surfers and divers. Swimming, however, is not allowed. Parks at Bird Rock include La Jolla Hermosa Park at the intersection of (Camino de la Costa and Chelsea Avenue) and Calumet Park on Calumet Avenue.

Country Club - La Jolla Country Club is an exclusive residential neighborhood that is also home to the La Jolla Country Club and Golf course. There are some canyons and steep slopes that add to the ambiance, privacy and scenic views of this lovely neighborhood. Many homes are oriented towards the dazzling ocean views. Homes here are convenient for village shopping and dining.

Hidden Valley - This area of La Jolla is popular for the easy freeway and university access. A pedestrian bridge links this community with the ocean.

La Jolla Alta - Situated on the south slope of Mount Soledad many La Jolla homes in this community have beautiful ocean, bay and or city light views. |
La Jolla Heights - A popular residential area with some superb views from the slopes of the hill overlooking La Jolla Shores (very reminiscent of the Mediterranean!). This area is popular for the easy freeway and University access.

La Jolla Farms - La Jolla Farms is about 200 acres located on the Northern boundary adjacent to Torrey Pines State Park, which recently celebrated its 100 year anniversary. On one side is UCSD and on the other the ocean. The Farms originally had an equestrian flavor, but is now best known for is large (make that huge) remodels. The U shaped oceanfront residence build by the Black's - the original Farms developer, is now owned by UCSD and used as the Chancellor's home. Black’s Beach is an extremely secluded beach that is well known for its “optional clothing”, it also features excellent surfing and a private gated entrance for La Jolla Farms residents.

La Jolla Mesa - La Jolla Mesa homes are situated on the south slope of Mount Soledad featuring some extraordinary southern views towards Mexico, including the San Diego City skyline, Coronado, Mission Bay and white water views of Pacific Beach and Mission Beach.

La Jolla Shores - "The Shores" is very popular with beach lovers. It features a charming business area on Avenida De La Playa with specialty shops, professional offices and several excellent restaurants. La Jolla Shores is the flattest and safest beach in La Jolla. It is very popular with swimmers, surfers, scuba divers, and picnickers. It also has several volleyball areas, along with the only beachfront boat launch within San Diego City limits.

La Jolla Village - (not to be confused with the Village of La Jolla) - north-east La Jolla, east of La Jolla Heights, north and west of I-5, and south of UCSD. This neighborhood's namesake, The La Jolla Village Square shopping and residential mall, including La Jolla's two movie theatres, is located here.

Lower Hermosa - Quiet, wide, palm lined streets. One of the nicest residential areas in La Jolla developed from the 1920's through to 1980. Camino De La Costa (The Street of Dreams) runs parallel with the ocean. Lower Hermosa has short cliffs and sandy beaches.

Upper Hermosa - A quiet neighborhood with some of the same flavor as Lower Hermosa, just a little further from the ocean so consequently with prices a little prices. Conveniently located near the Bird Rock shops and restaurants.

Muirlands - On the western slopes of Mount Soledad this could be described as La Jolla real estate at its finest, with winding roads and numerous multi-million dollar homes set amongst ancient trees. Some of the original homes were constructed around 1926 along Old Muirlands Drive - you can still see the original street gutter build of ocean pebble rock.

Muirlands West - This family oriented community enjoys some wide streets on the western slope of Mount Soledad. Walking distance of schools for all ages.

Soledad South - On the south eastern slopes of Mount Soledad many homes have a view of some sort, either hillside, back country, city lights and/or bay and ocean views. After WWII Nautilus Street was built leading up from the ocean to the peak of the mountain. This allowed for the development of what we now know as Soledad.

Village - a.k.a. Village of La Jolla (not to be confused with La Jolla Village) - Now very popular with those that want easy access to all the delights that "Downtown" La Jolla offers including: the excellent shops, the beaches, tide pools, the unbelievable variety (over 100) of the finest restaurants in California, Museum of Contemporary Art, etc. In addition there are art galleries galore! The "Village" is the oldest section of La Jolla dating back to 1888, originally settled by local San Diegans wanting a weekend cottage by the sea. It should be noted that The Village (of La Jolla) and La Jolla Village are distinct neighborhoods within La Jolla.
